This construction method means that the dwelling is extremely thermally efficient with no unwanted air (heat/energy) leaks. However, this type of construction highlights the necessity to ventilate the dwelling to prevent the buildup of problems caused by stale air and excessive moisture such as mould, bacteria and increased respiratory problems. MTD produce a wide range of whole house ventilation systems with efficient heat exchangers and low operating costs. These systems are designed to extract waste air from bathrooms, kitchen, utility and generally all wet areas and supply fresh filtered air to the occupied living areas such as bedrooms, living room, study and dining room. The extracted air passes through a counterflow heat exchanger which gets warmed while the stale air is exhausted to atmosphere. The supply air coming from outside passes through the F8 filter and then the counterflow exchanger where it gets warmed before entering the air distribution system in the dwelling. There is no cross contamination between the exhaust air and the supply air. The other issue with air tight construction is that it improves the acoustic integrity of the dwelling. However, this means that all internal noise sources are more noticeable because previously heard masking sounds have been eliminated. MTD design all system with the occupants sound quality in mind and systems produce less the 29dB(A).
